Meet Bramble
Gentle Bear Herbalist
Bramble
Bramble was born in the hollow of the Great Cedar at the heart of the island, raised on honeycombs and old folktales told by the river. When the fortune-stones first began tumbling from the cliff face one autumn evening, Bramble was the first creature brave enough to pick one up — and it glowed gold in those broad, careful paws.
Since that night, Bramble has tended the island's games like a gardener tends seedlings, making sure every visitor finds a little warmth and wonder without ever risking a thing. A soft-spoken guardian who greets every traveller with a warm nod and a handful of fortune-stones.
The Clearing
Timber Reels
Three carved wooden reels spin beneath the pines — line up the forest symbols and watch the fortune-stones tumble.
Rules
- Match three identical symbols across any horizontal row to win.
- The Bramble Wild symbol replaces any other symbol to complete a line.
- Wins are paid in virtual Fortune-Stones only — they carry no real-money value and cannot be exchanged or cashed out.
Cliff Drop
Release a fortune-stone from the mossy ledge and watch it bounce through cedar pegs down to the river pools below.
Rules
- Drop a stone from the top and let gravity decide its path through the pegs.
- The stone lands in one of the river pools at the bottom, each carrying a different multiplier.
- All winnings are virtual Fortune-Stones with no real-money value — they cannot be cashed out or redeemed.
Aurora Wheel
Spin the great wheel carved into the standing stone and let the northern lights choose your fortune.
Rules
- Give the wheel a spin and wait for the needle to settle on a segment.
- Each segment carries a multiplier applied to your play of virtual Fortune-Stones.
- All rewards are virtual and carry no monetary value whatsoever — they cannot be cashed out.
Forest Floor
Brush aside the fallen leaves to reveal hidden symbols — uncover three matching tokens and the forest rewards you.
Rules
- Brush away nine leaf tiles to reveal the symbols hidden beneath.
- Uncover three or more matching Amber tokens to win a fortune-stone reward.
- All winnings are virtual Fortune-Stones only — they have no real-money value and cannot be redeemed for cash.
The Sanctuary
Bear Island is a mist-wrapped sanctuary somewhere off the northern coast, where old-growth cedars lean over rivers of amber light and the animals speak in riddles. Travellers arrive by wooden ferry, drawn by stories of fortune-stones that tumble from mossy cliffs after every storm.
The island's inhabitants — bears, foxes, ravens, and one very opinionated moose — have turned those stones into games of chance played purely for the joy of the roll. No coin here has ever bought a thing; they simply glow a little brighter each time you smile. The forest keeps score in its own quiet way, and the northern lights above the canopy shift colour with every spin.
The Campfire Path
Starting Balance
Every traveller who steps off the ferry is handed a pouch of 5,000 Fortune-Stones by Bramble personally — warm from the campfire, free of charge, no questions asked. They are yours to spin, drop, and scratch to your heart's content.
Zero Risk
No real money is ever involved in any game on Bear Island. There are no deposits, no purchases, no hidden microtransactions. Fortune-Stones carry no monetary value and cannot be exchanged for anything tangible outside the forest.
Refilling
If your pouch ever runs dry, simply refresh the page and Bramble will meet you at the dock with a fresh bundle of 5,000 Fortune-Stones. The island's supply is limitless, because the cliffs never stop tumbling and the games never stop glowing.
Our Story
We started sketching Bear Island in a shared studio above a bakery in Victoria, British Columbia, in the autumn of 2020 — three friends who had grown up playing card games around campfires and wanted to bring that feeling to the screen.
From the very first prototype, we made one rule absolute: no real money, no exceptions. Every coin on the island would be virtual, every game free to play, every moment designed for warmth rather than pressure. By 2022, our small team had grown to five, and we launched our first browser-based social casino to a handful of curious visitors.
Today Bear Island welcomes travellers from across the country, and that founding rule has never bent — not once, not even a little.
The Team
Clara Fong
Studio Director
Clara grew up on Vancouver Island, where the forests are so deep you can lose an afternoon just listening. She founded Bear Island Studios in 2020 with a conviction that play should feel like a walk in the woods — unhurried and free of charge.
Thierry Beaulieu
Lead Game Designer
Thierry spent a decade designing board games in Montréal before joining the studio. He treats every reel, every peg, every wheel segment as a tiny narrative — something that should feel like it matters, even when the stakes are purely imaginary.
Ingrid Solheim
Art Director
Ingrid paints watercolour landscapes by morning and crafts pixel-perfect UI by afternoon. She is the reason every screen on Bear Island feels like turning a page in a picture book.
Devante Miller
Front-End Engineer
Devante writes the code that makes the reels spin and the stones bounce. He once stayed up all night perfecting the sound a Fortune-Stone makes when it lands — a soft, warm chime that still makes him smile.
Priya Chakravarti
Community & Responsible Play Lead
Priya moderates our player community with a gentle hand and an open ear. She oversees every responsible-play initiative and writes our quarterly well-being reports, because she believes looking after people always comes before looking after numbers.
What We're About
Campfire Bonus
Return each day to sit by the campfire and collect a generous handful of Fortune-Stones — always free, never a catch.
No Purchase, Ever
Every game on Bear Island runs on virtual coins alone. There is nothing to buy, nothing to unlock with real money.
Play Anywhere
The island travels with you — our games run on any modern browser, on phone, tablet, or desktop, with nothing to download.
Seasonal Trails
Follow the island's changing seasons through limited-time challenges and collect unique tokens as the forest shifts around you.
Safe Harbour
Bear Island was built, from the very first pencil sketch, to be a place of comfort rather than pressure. Our games — Timber Reels, Cliff Drop, Aurora Wheel, and Forest Floor — are played entirely with virtual Fortune-Stones that cost nothing, hold no monetary value, and exist only inside this quiet corner of the internet. The island is an adult environment (19+) in Canada, and we take that boundary seriously because the warmth of a game means little if the people around it are not looked after first.
There is no real-money gambling anywhere on Bear Island. Fortune-Stones cannot be exchanged for tangible prizes, cash, or anything beyond the glow they carry on screen. Even so, we believe deeply that responsible-play habits matter in every context — even a purely simulated one. We encourage you to set time limits, take breaks when the forest feels less enchanting, and remember that these games are meant to be a gentle diversion, never an obligation.
If gaming of any kind ever stops feeling like entertainment or begins to weigh on your daily life, we ask you, kindly, to step away. Professional and confidential support services are available in Canada, and our Responsible Play page offers full guidance, practical tools, and helpline details for anyone who needs them.
